SEO on Wix
SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO works by optimizing a website's content, conducting keyword research, and earning inbound links to increase that content's ranking and the website's visibility. Previously we introduced how to make a website using the online platform Wix. This time we will continue to develop our website by adding SEO components. You could click here to see the Wix guide.
Step 1: locate SEO icon on the dashboard
For each website in our Wix account we have a dashboard. Dashboards allow us to choose editing actions and make the website design much simpler. To begin our SEO setting, we first enter the dashboard of our website. Please refer to the Wix guide for how to enter dashboard for a website.
First, we find "Page" on the top left of the dashboard (circled in red).

Once you click on the "Page" button, you should see a drop-down list as shown in the below image. On the bottom of this drop-down list, there is a blue "Manage Pages" text. Please click on it.

The left-side panel will then become the "Site Pages and Menu" panel. This lists all your pages in your website portfolio. We could select SEO settings for each individual page. Setting up SEO for each page increases the chance for your website to be discovered and thus increasing the number of stakeholders you could reach. This is because all pages in your website portfolio could be well indexed and appear in the search results.

You could move your mouse to the page you want in the panel. The page name where the mouse is on will appear blue and you should see an icon with three dots (circled in red). Please click on this icon.

A drop-down list will appear once you clicked on the three dot icon. Please select "SEO basics" to start setting up the SEO features.

Step 2: Setting up SEO features
We have now entered the setting page for SEO. There are three things we can do:
1. Edit the page title. This is the name that will appear in the search result and also in the browser tab.
2. Write a short description of our page. This description will show in the search result and helps the search engine crawler to identify the important content of your page.
3. Turn on/off whether to let the search engine index the page. This means that the page could appear directly in the search result. If you turn this off, this current page will now show in the search result. This means that the viewers cannot find the page directly from the search result. Turning the indexing off could protect the information if the site contains private information. Please choose to turn on or off the indexing based on the situation.

This image is to show you the indexing button. I also filled in the description and changed the name from the previous image.

Side note: Setting up social share features
We could also set up the features for social sharing. This happens when people share your website through social media platforms such as Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter. As SEO settings, you could edit the title that shows on social media and write a description about your page. You could also upload an image to share together with the text on social media. This is called Open Graph Tags. Usually on social media when people share your page, an image will come along with the text. This image is the first that viewers see from the shared page. You could select the most representative image of your page and your organization.
